Bad Day. The Black Cloud hovers and won't move on. Don't take it personally. It happens to all of us. But when it happens to you...Ouch!
Need a quick fix? A speedy remedy? Look no further.
1. Get in water. Okay, maybe you don't have a nearby ocean or lake to soothe your hurt. It's the water itself that's important, not the source or the scenery. Humans have a premordial connection to water. Water is why we want to win the lottery...so we can afford to live near that ocean, lake, river, or pond. Buy a boat, go deep-sea fishing. In the meantime? A shower will do the trick. Or a soaky bubble bath. Something about positive (or is it negative?) ions. It doesn't matter. The fresh feeling that comes from stepping out of a shower is what you need.
2. Step away from Facebook. Go ahead, check in to see what your FB Friends are up to. No doubt, they're doing something totally awesome. Admit it, not many folks post "I just had the shittiest day ever. I made a huge mistake that cost my company a zillion dollars, and this is likely my last day as an employee." No, it's more like: "Great day at ____!" (Fill in the Orlando theme park that you can't afford.) or "Wow! I can't believe I just won____ Prize!" (The award that you would sell your soul to win, and in your heart, you know you deserve more than this charlatan.) I wrote about the miseries of Facebook before. It can really make you feel bad. Even when you know better.
3. Music. Find some. Now. What makes you feel better? What makes you want to dance and sing? It's a personal choice here. I like something with a beat, something I can sing along with. A classic, but not so far in the past that it makes me feel OLD. Just something that takes me back to a good memory. Music as therapy is nothing new. Last year, The New Yorker had a good article on its benefits. On the Bad Days, you know what music will cheer you up and get you back in your groove. Mozart or the Monkees? Beatles or Beastie Boys? Pink or Pink Floyd? It's your choice, friend.
Bad Days happen. Then they pass. Find your way out.
