It doesn't seem that long ago, it really doesn't. Linda and I became fast friends when we married cousins. Together, the four of us had some adventures---including the one in this photo. We had been strawberry picking, and had no idea that we weren't supposed to wash the berries until we used them. So...we washed them in the shower. A totally disgusting action, but we were young and naive.
As our kids grew up, we often enjoyed Linda's Bourbon/Rum Slush as we sat outside on summer evenings, or inside playing Euchre. Which I never could figure out, so no one wanted to be my partner. This is where the Slush came in handy: the more you drank, the less the cards mattered.
We both divorced our husband-cousins and have moved on. But the Slush recipe? Every summer...
Ingredients
1 46-ounce can pineapple juice
1 12-ounce can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 6-ounce can frozen lemonade
DO NOT DILUTE THE FROZEN JUICES!
2 cups brewed tea
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups whiskey or rum (Vodka might work, too)
Lemon-lime soda
Directions
1. Mix all ingredients and freeze in a covered container. You will have to clear out signficant freezer space to hold the container--but it's worth it.
2. To serve: put 1/2 cup (or more!) in a glass and break up the chunks with a spoon
3. Add lemon-lime soda to make a slush
4. Feeling fancy? Add an orange slice and cherry
5. Watch the children play! Aren't they wonderful?!?!?
Makes 24 servings...or 12, if the kids are misbehaving...
