“A very wise quote is a spectacular waterfall! When you see it, you feel its power!”
-Mehmet Murat ildan
This week, I'm not telling...I'm asking. For a quote from each of you.
I love quotes. Each week of the Camino Countdown has started with a quote related to the week's topic.
I have a pretty scarlet red Moleskine journal that I'm taking with me on my 500-mile Camino walk. I got it in San Diego at a cool bookstore last year; I debated about the color of the cover for at least ten minutes. Then I decided to go bold.
I always planned to journal on my walk. There is something about the physical act of holding a book and pen that can't be duplicated by a tablet. That was part of the dilemma when I wrote about technology on the Camino...if I intend to write, how much technology to I really need? Besides, the journal weighs about seven ounces. With a couple of pens, it will take half a pound of my packing weight. Totally worth it.
As I began to read about others' Camino experiences, I wrote down quotes and phrases in the little Moleskine that held all my lists, including my reasons for doing the Camino. Over time, I gathered a nice collection of inspirations and things to ponder as I walk.
Here are a few examples:
- Beginnings could happen more than once, or in different ways. (Rachel Joyce)
- What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination. (Zig Ziglar)
- Old age is the time to do every single thing we can possibly do with all the life we can bring to it. This is the the time to live with an edge, with strength, with abandon. There is nothing for which to save our energy. Now it is simply time to spend time well. (Sr. Joan Chittister)
- Your legs will get heavy and tired at first. But walk on and wings will lift you up. (Rumi)
- In truth, we (everybody and everything) are all connected; most of us just can't see the glue. (Bo Lozoff)
- This day is renewal, every morning the daily miracle. This joy you feel is life. (Gertrude Stein)
During the next few weeks, I am going to write a quote across the top of every page of my journal. Each evening, as I sit down, with a glass of fine Spanish wine, I want to open up to a page that has a beautiful thought...all the better if it comes from you.
S0. Now I come to you, steadfast readers. Everyone has a favorite quote. What's yours? Is it funny?Sweet? Motivating? Meaningful? I want them all.
Please do me the honor of including a little bit of you as I cross Spain. Send your quote to me: [email protected]
I close today with the quote that will be on the last page of my journal:
For all that has been, thank you. For all that is to come, yes.
(Dag Hammarkjold)
Life isn't all you want but it all you have so stick a red geranium in your hat and be happy...
